It gives me great pleasure to announce that David Marchick will join 69传媒 University on August 15, 2022 as the next dean of the Kogod School of Business following a national search.聽聽A distinguished leader who has worked across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, Dean Marchick spent 12 years as managing director at the Carlyle Group.聽聽He comes to AU after most recently serving as chief operating officer and senior Biden appointee at the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).聽聽During his time at the DFC, he managed agency priorities; oversaw business operations; led the formation of a strategic plan; and coordinated with the White House, other agencies, and the board of directors chaired by the Secretary of State.聽
Prior to his role with the DFC, Dean Marchick directed the Center for Presidential Transition at the Partnership for Public Service.聽聽In this capacity, he advised President Biden鈥檚 transition team, worked with senior White House officials, and engaged with more than 100 federal agencies.聽聽While at the Carlyle Group, Dean Marchick served on the firm鈥檚 management committee and had broad responsibility for external engagements, including working with Carlyle鈥檚 funds, investors, portfolio companies, and other stakeholders.聽聽He was a member of the core group that took Carlyle public and managed the firm鈥檚 public reporting and quarterly earnings reports.
Earlier in his career, Dean Marchick was a partner and vice chair of the international practice at Covington & Burling, LLP.聽聽He also held several positions within the Clinton Administration, including leadership roles at the Department of State, the Department of Commerce, and the White House.聽聽Since 2019, he has served as an adjunct professor at Dartmouth University鈥檚 Tuck School of Business.
A well-respected strategic advisor, Dean Marchick has an impressive record of service on nonprofit boards and advisory councils.聽聽He was appointed by President Obama and reappointed by President Trump to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council (Board of Trustees of the Museum) and has served on the National Council of the National Parks Foundation.聽聽A national leader on diversity initiatives, Dean Marchick chaired the board of directors of the Robert Toigo Foundation, a prominent nonprofit diversity organization in the finance industry.聽聽He has been part of substantial fundraising efforts, including a $3 billion campaign for his alma mater, the University of California San Diego.聽聽In addition, he has served on numerous corporate boards, including Franklin Templeton Asia Alternatives, Scientific Games, Traxys Sarl, Sequa Corporation, and Philadelphia Energy Solutions.
The author of two peer-reviewed books, including The Peaceful Transfer of Power: An Oral History of America鈥檚 Presidential Transitions (forthcoming in fall 2022), Dean Marchick has also written a variety of articles and op-eds for major publications.聽聽An expert on a wide range of business, investment, and policy issues, he has testified before Congress and appeared on PBS鈥檚 The News Hour, CBS This Morning, NPR, CNBC, and other outlets.
Dean Marchick received his JD from the George Washington University School of Law and holds an MA in public affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.聽聽He earned a BA in history from UC San Diego.聽
It is an especially exciting time for Dean Marchick to join the Kogod School of Business.聽聽The school is a leader in business education thanks to its accomplished faculty, talented staff, and passionate student body.聽Known for its outstanding efforts in sustainability; diversity, equity, and inclusion; entrepreneurship; and hands-on learning, Kogod has been widely recognized by key ranking institutions.聽聽Kogod鈥檚 MBA was recently ranked as the #8 best green MBA by Princeton Review and as the #9 most diverse full-time MBA program by Bloomberg Businessweek, while its graduate entrepreneurship program was ranked in the top 50 by Princeton Review.聽聽Kogod has launched innovative co-op and pro bono consulting programs that give students unparalleled resume-worthy, real-world business experiences.聽聽These programs have propelled Kogod in the national rankings, as US News & World Report ranked the full-time MBA program #76, a 37-point climb over the last six years.
Many thanks to outgoing dean John Delaney for his leadership in laying the groundwork for Kogod鈥檚 future success.聽聽I would also like to express my gratitude to Parthiban David for his willingness to step into the interim role this summer and to Kogod鈥檚 faculty, staff, and students for their active engagement throughout the search process.聽聽Special thanks to the members of the search committee, expertly led by Ajay Adhikari, for their dedication and hard work in recruiting this exceptional new dean for Kogod.聽聽
